AIDS is a devastating disease the is killing so many people. It is estimated that around five thousand people die every day from this horrible disease. Disease control agents work tirelessly to find a cure that seems always just out of reach. Studies show that in 2010, thirty-four million people were living with AIDS. Of those millions, over two million children suffer. It is important that we continue to research and fight for a cure.

AIDS awareness needs to be taught to every person so that we can stop the progression of its path. AIDS health studies must be conducted so that we can not only prolong the life of AIDS patients, but also stop the spread of AIDS. The cost of AIDS-related care is skyrocketing. Millions and millions of new cases of AIDS occur each and every day. Something needs to be done to help heal our world of this pestilence. Together, we can all help to educate and protect each other so that needless lives don't have to be lost.

History of AIDS

According to AIDS health studies, AIDS is thought to have begun in monkeys, but no one is quite sure of its origin. Haiti began having cases of AIDS back in 1966. The United States was introduced to AIDS in 1970. Since 1970, the AIDS epidemic has spread like wildfire. No race or gender is immune. AIDS is not only being spread among adults through sexual contact, but also by sharing needles. Children are being born with AIDS at an alarming rate.

It wasn't until 1982 that AIDS was given the name. AIDS health officials named the disease Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome because it attacks the immune system of its victim. The lack of immune system takes its toll on the body quickly. Most people do not die from the disease itself, but from the complications of the disease. The infections that the disease causes can be devastating to AIDS patients. They must protect themselves from coming into contact with germs and infected people. It becomes almost impossible for the AIDS patient to stay well.

Symptoms of AIDS

The symptoms of AIDS can take years to develop, according to AIDS health studies. That is why this disease is so dangerous because people are walking around and don't even know that they have it. The main symptoms of AIDS progresses as the disease progresses. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck are one of the first symptoms. This leads to fever, night sweats, diarrhea, headache, and joint pain.

As the disease progresses, secondary infections such as pneumonia and cancer also progress. The biggest leading cause of death among AIDS patients is pneumonia. The risk of infection is the greatest concern for patients suffering from this disease because their immune systems get so low that they are prone to any and all infections and a minor infection, such as a cold, can kill them.
