How To Find Jobs in My Area

Introduction

Finding area jobs in your town may take a bit of research. By keeping at it and knowing where to look and what to do, it may make it a bit easier to find area jobs that you are interested in. With the economy the way that it is and area jobs harder to come by, it does take a bit more of an effort to find a job. However, it is not impossible. Stay positive and determined and you will find the job that you are looking for.

Step 1

• Polish up your resume. If you do not have a resume, you will want to make one. If you are not experienced in doing this, do some research online or hire a professional. Paying someone to do your resume is often money well spent. Having a good resume and cover letter if often what gets your noticed and what will get you called for an interview. The best way to get  noticed for area jobs is to make your resume stand out from every other person's.  Remember that for all area jobs posted, you are competing with many others for each one.

Step 2

• Read your local newspaper's classified ads. One of the best ways to look for area jobs is to check where companies post ads. Many use the newspaper for this. Read the ad carefully, follow any directions that are specified. Some may require you to apply in person, some will want you to call and still others may ask you to apply over the Internet. Not reading through the ad could cause you to miss important directions. If you do not follow the directions in the ad, it does not look good to prospective employers.

Step 3

• Check your local Craigslist. Just as area jobs are listed in your local newspaper, they are also listed on Craigslist. One nice feature with Craigslist is that employers have the ability to post positions throughout the day. Make it a point to check back throughout the day as more area jobs are posted. Checking back often may result in your being able to see a job, apply for it and wow them with your resume before anyone else gets a chance.

• Spread the word. Let friends and family members know that you are looking for area jobs. They may know someone who is hiring. Or they may know someone who knows someone who is looking for someone with your experience. Work of mouth could work to get you an interview that you may not have known about.

Step 5

Speak to supervisors and managers at area businesses that you frequent. Let those in management positions know that you are searching for area jobs and would love to work with them if anything opens up. When you frequent a business often, you tend to get to know the people who work there. This could work to your advantage.
