How To Email My Parents

Introduction

Email is one of the most widely used methods of keeping up with friends and parents. To email your parents, there are certain steps that must be undertaken to make sure the message is delivered successfully. Using an email provider such as Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail makes it easier to email parents, friends, and coworkers. Depending on the length of the email, you can compose and send an email message within a few minutes. An active Internet connection to the computer is required when emailing parents.

Step 1

Open a Web browser on your computer. The browser will provide a gateway to accessing your email. There are many available options for browsers that are readily available including Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. The browsers are available to download and install on your computer. You will need to use another browser to access the website to download the new browser.

Step 2

Enter your email providers website in the address bar at the top of your Web browser. For instance, to email your parents through a Gmail account, enter “www.gmail.com” in the address bar. To email parents through a Hotmail account, enter “www.hotmail.com” in the address bar at the top of the address bar. Hit “Go” or press the “Enter” key after the address is entered in the bar.

Step 3

Log into your email using your username and password. The username is usually the part of your email address that precedes the “@” symbol. If not, contact your email provider for help on determining your email address username. If you have forgotten your password, use the link indicated to change your password. You may be prompted to answer security questions to recover or change your password. If you are unable to answer the questions, contact your provider for additional assistance with retrieving your email password.

Step 4

Click “New” or “Compose” to launch a blank message to email my parents. Some email my parents programs may have other options listed to open a blank message to email my parents. Read the top menu in my email to determine the right option to open a new email message.

Step 5

Enter your parents email address in the “To” field and type the body of the message in the large field below it. If the email address is not entered correctly, the email will not be sent successfully. Double-check the email address to make sure its accuracy. You can enter as much text as needed in the body of message. Most email programs do not place a limit on the amount of text in emails. After composing the email, click “Send” to deliver the message.

Tips and comments

Log out of your email after you finish sending your message. If you are on your personal computer and no one has access to it, it is okay to leave your email account logged on. Remember, leaving your email open on any computer can leave you vulnerable to security breaches. Reply to an email by clicking "Reply" while viewing an email. Enter your response and click "Send."
