Lawsuits related to the enhancement of the environment are mostly started as any other lawsuit and usually involve these basic steps; firstly a complaint is filed for example most companies which manufacture shampoos or lotions and other beauty products label these items as organic where as in reality this isn’t the case. Thus environmental health agencies may file a complaint against such companies. After this a specialist will investigate the problem thoroughly for example if a complaint has been filed against a restaurant then the health inspector will inspect the health conditions of that restaurant. After this summons are issued by the court which basically tells the defendant party that a legal notice has been filed against them. The defendant party, in this case the guilty companies will then have a specific time period to respond to the summons. The response maybe of denying or ‘an affirmative defense’ is asserted against the plaintiff. On the other hand in many cases, agencies such as the Customers Union will take up the responsibility to protect the people. These organizations have the ability to influence policies, change them and as a whole work for the improvement of enviromental health conditions.
