Introduction
Skin therapy, or how you take care of skin and its problems depends on your skin type. This article will tell you how to determine what kind of skin you have, and will go on to give you skin therapy tips based on the skin type.
There are five skin types, and which one you have will have to be considered when you go in for skin therapy of any sort. The five types of skin are:
Step 1
Normal: This is the skin type that causes least problems, being rather well-balanced and not prone to breakouts of sensitivity.
Dry: If you have skin that is flaky, and often feels stretched around your jaw and eyes, you have dry skin, and require the corresponding skin therapy.
Oily: If your skin tends to shine and you are very prone to acne and pimples, you need skin therapy for oily skin. Chances are, your pores will be enlarged or very visible.
Combination: The T-zone is the area consisting of your nose and forehead, and if you have combination skin, the T-zone will be oily. The rest of your face, that is, the cheeks, will be cry or normal.
Sensitive: This simply means that your skin reacts badly to many cosmetic products and also gets irritated by the sun very soon.

Step 2
Now that you know your skin type, we can move to the skin therapy required by each:
Normal: This type of skin requires the least efforts from your side to make it look good. Lucky you, to have normal skin! For normal skin, use rosewater to refresh it each morning or whenever you feel the need to. You need to keep your face clean, and any mild soap or face wash will work well with your skin.
Step 3
Dry: This type of skin requires some care, otherwise it will look flaky and rough. Skin therapy for dry skin calls for providing it with nourishment. Use shea-butter products for your skin, and make sure you moisturize it well. Use a very gentle and mild soap to wash your face, and never use it too often, or your skin will feel too taut and stretched.
Step 4
Oily: Here, you have to work on removing excess oil, cleaning pores of the skin properly and preventing a breakout. Don't use harsh soap on your skin, hoping to make it dry – this will only cause your sebacious glands to secrete more oil. Use a mild soap, and wash your face with plain water if you need to. You also need to watch your diet – do not eat fried or oily food in excess, and try to cut down on unnecessary carbohydrates.
Step 5
Combination: This skin is a little tricky, as you have to control excessive oil in parts, and nourish in others. You need to use skin therapy recommended for dry skin on your cheeks, and skin therapy recommended for oily skin on the T-zone. This will ensure that your cheeks are not flaky, and that your T-zone does not stand out because of the shine.
Sensitive: More than anything else, watch your diet. You need to give up processed foods, and opt for healthy, fresh food instead. When going out into the sun, make sure you never leave without applying a layer of sunscreen.
