The most common skin diseases are acne, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, skin cancer, and psoriasis. Skin, which is the largest organ in the human body, when gets infected cause disorders that are not only physical, but also psychological.

Acne and pimples are the most common of all skin disease and affects both men and women. It is a skin disease that affects girls and boys in their adolescence and teen years. It is however not uncommon for people in their twenties and thirties to get acne on their face and other parts of their body. Acne and pimples on the face, neck and other visible parts are highly embarrassing and can erode the confidence and self esteem of a person. When the passageway between the skins pores and the oil glands get clogged it causes pimples. Severe acne are formed deep in the skin and cause scars. Approximately eighty percent of men and women in the country have been affected by acne at some time or the other.

While most of the time it gets cured as the person gets older about 60 percent of the people are affected by this skin disease even after they become adults. Heredity and hormonal changes in the body are important reasons for this skin disease that affects the face, shoulders, neck, back and the chest.

Eczema is the second most common skin disease. There are three types of eczema. Atopic dermatitis is mostly seen in children and this genetic disease causes rashes in the elbows and knees. Those allergic to certain fragrances, cosmetic agents and jewelry contact dermatitis, a disease that affects adults. Dry skin is the reason for nummular dermatitis that is red and itchy. A moisturized skin can build a skin barrier and prevent these skin conditions.

Oily waxy patches on the scalp are as a result of seborrheic dermatitis. This is different from other types of dermatitis and is a disease that affects babies and about 5 percent of the people in the country.

Skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in the country affects one million Americans each year and statistics say that one in five American get skin cancer. It is the most common type of cancer in the country. Excessive exposure to harmful ultra violet sun rays are said to be the main cause for skin cancer. In a few types of skin cancer heredity plays a bigger role than exposure to suns harmful rays.

Psoriasis is a chronic genetic skin disease that is caused by the buildup of excess tissue on the skin. It occurs because of changes in the immune system. The skin of the person affected by this disease is red and thick and silvery scales appear on the elbows and knees. It then spreads to the other parts of the affected limb. This skin disease affects the person both physically as well psychologically.
