Introduction

When it comes to laser hair removal, there are a lot of speculations pertaining to its pros and cons. This procedure comes approved from the FDA. However, its cost is a major concern for people opting for laser for hair. The principle of working is based on striking the hair follicle with a beam of laser. The laser would impair the follicle and lessen its ability to form hair. About 80 percent of the total hair can be efficiently reduced. There is an issue pertaining to the skin types that can be given laser treatment, but progress is being made in this regard.

History

It might come as a surprise to many but laser for hair were used for the very first time in 1960s. The laser used for this purpose was known as the argon laser, referring to the gas used for the laser. The drawback to this laser was that it damaged the skin. It was removed from usage. A major development in this regard was made with the launch of Q-switch. The Q switch can be deemed as an on-off button that sends only pulses of laser. This lessened the damage impact on the skin. Further improvement was made in the procedure in the 1980s with the introduction of soft light laser. As of now, many laser for hair has been approved by the FDA and are currently in use for hair reduction.

Features

Soft light laser happens to be the first laser for hair that was approved by the FDA. The main feature of this form of laser was that it employed the usage of a crystal by the name of yttrium aluminum garnet. It has been known for quite some time that laser works best on darker hair and light skin. As mentioned above, development is being made for laser of all hair types. However, the soft light laser worked with the help of a carbon lotion. The role of carbon lotion was to make the hair darker so that the process of hair removal could be optimized. One of the modern laser for hair includes the ruby laser. The ruby laser has been well-known for causing the least amount of damage to the skin. The principle behind its working is that it employs the usage of a laser with lesser/shorter wavelength. This lessens the impact on the skin and also the fact that how deep the laser goes.

Tips and comments

Often people assume that laser treatment results in permanent removal of hair. That is not correct as laser causes permanent reduction in the hair. This is what has been approved and mentioned by the FDA as well. An important thing about using laser treatment is that one should get checked by a dermatologist first to check if your skin if free of any allergy. In certain cases, laser would be not recommended. People can also have abnormal reactions to laser, so it is quite important that one gets their skin checked beforehand.
