Also remember that the amount of hair dye you need to purchase should be enough to cover the entire length of your hair. For example, if your hair reaches down to your waist, then you will need at least three boxes of 100ml-dye.

Tip: If you want to go darker, choose a 6% coluor cream developer. If your hair is slightly treated, choose a 9% variant. If you want a drastic change in colour, choose the highest concentration, which is the 12% variant.

Step 2

Shampoo and condition your hair just the way you normally do. Your hair should be free from oil and other hair products before attempting to colour it. Your efforts will just be useless if you start off with your hair filled with products and chemicals. 

If your hair is chocolate brown to jet black, then it would be best to bleach your hair before using hair colour dye. Darker tones cannot easily absorb the particles of the dye.

Step 3

Section your hair. Start at the back part of your hair since it takes longer to process and change in colour in that area. Work your way up and outward until you reach the top of your head. If there is a certain amount of hair colour dye remaining, spread it evenly on the side where you usually part your hair. Additionally, concentrate on the more visible parts of your hair.

Step 4

See the hair colour dye box for the processing time. It usually takes about thirty to forty-five minutes for your hair to process, depending on its length and thickness. However, leave your hair for thirty minutes and cover with a plastic wrap. You can put a hot towel on your head or you can also apply heat by using a blow dryer.

Step 5

Take off the plastic wrap and spritz a small amount of water on your hair to emulsify the hair colour. Leave on for another 15 minutes. Once the time is up, you can already rinse it thoroughly. Shampoo and condition again to restore the hair's normal pH level.
