Introduction

Types Of Treatment For Acne

Acne troubles not only teens, but adults as well. No one wants bumps protruding from their face as they go through their everyday lives. Acne is caused by too much oil production in the skins sebaceous glands and clogged pores. The skin gets irritated and a bump forms. It seems like there is absolutely no way to clear skin of acne once it starts. There are actually many types of treatments for acne. Out of the three discussed here, two can be found at any drugstore. Ease of access is important to any acne sufferer so treatment can be purchased and applied fast. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can both be found at a drugstore or grocery store. Retinol can also be purchased over the counter, but the kind strong enough to clear acne can only be found by prescription.

Step 1

Benzoyl Peroxide:

Benzoyl peroxide used to be very popular amongst only teenagers for controlling everyday acne bumps. Now, adults teens and tweens use it as it has gained popularity due to re-branding. There are now three-step acne treatment programs that contain bezoyl peroxide as its main ingredient. This new packaging appeals to adults as well as teens. Benzoyl peroxide is applied to the areas affected by acne and dries out the pimples that form. This treatment for acne comes in a cream and now a gel and is available and many store like drugstores and grocery chains. Sometimes it causes irritation and dryness to the person using the product. Everyone reacts differently to this treatment. Benzoyl peroxide is usually applied once or twice a day in the morning and at night before bed. Over time with consistent use, mild acne should clear up.

Step 2

Salicylic Acid:

Salicylic acid has many great uses, but it is mostly known for its acne clearing abilities. This treatment for acne works by clearing out clogged pores and exfoliating the skin. It prevents previous clogged pores from being easily clogged again. This is a good acne treatment because by removing the dead skin cells and unclogging pores, acne can be prevented as well as cleared. Because of this, spreading the cream all over the face is better than spot treating.

Step 3

Retinol:

Retinol comes in many forms. In short, retinol is a type of vitamin A that promotes healthier skin by clearing away layers of dead skin and increasing the cell turnover rate. The form of retinol, tretinoin, is the retinoic acid used for the treatment of acne. It is available by prescription only although there are some lighter versions available at cosmeceutical specialty counters. This acne treatment is the most effective for clearing up acne for good. A small amount of cream is spread onto the affected areas before bed. Once the treatment is started, the skin becomes very sensitive and sunscreen must be worn every day. Flaking and redness occurs on the skin, but subsides over time. In the end the skin is left acne free.

Conclusion

All three of these products is a great treatment for acne. What you choose depends on the severity of the acne and what your skin can handle.
