Introduction

There are approximately 250 million cars on American roads and millions of drivers driving them. However, irresponsible and bad driving causes more than 30,000 deaths each year. In fact, you may be surprised to know that middle aged drivers are as involved in automobile crashes as teenagers. So, anybody who wants to improve their driving and become a good driver should be respected for that.

Step 1

While there is no magic formula to become the best car driver, or even a good car driver, any driver who is aware of his or her responsibilities may well be on their way to becoming one. Most states have designed an intense program to teach and certify new drivers. Your first step to becoming a good car driver would be to follow these rules and procedures diligently.

Step 2

For example, you should always have a licensed driver, 21 years or older when you are driving with your learners license. Never cheat these rules, the guidance of a senior driver is required to improve your driving skills and make you a good driver.

Step 3

Read the traffic safety and rules booklet handed over by your local DMV. The street signs and rules may vary from state to state, and country to country. The DMV also modifies the laws and rules each year. So, familiarize yourself with the current information. This will not only make you a good and safe car driver but also help you avoid painful tickets.

Step 4

Before you start driving around, learn about your car. Remember that your car’s tiers, wheels, brakes, shock absorbers, engine, steering, suspension system and other parts of your car work together to give you a safe and comfortable ride as well as good gas mileage. Make sure your tires are inflated and aligned properly. Position your hands on the lower half of the steering wheel for optimum control. Replace your brake pads regularly.

Step 5

Once you know about your vehicle, prepare yourself for the task. Understand that driving distractions such as interacting with other passengers, talking or texting on the phone or adjusting the stereo is the number one cause for car crashes. Do not drive when you are fatigued. Lack of sleep can reduce your reaction time and limit your decision-making ability. Watch out for weather conditions including rain, fog, storms and extreme temperature. If you must drive under unfavorable weather conditions, be extra cautious.

Step 6

Practice all the different techniques including backing and three-point turns before you hit the roads. Check the positions of your mirrors and mark the reference points carefully before you make the turns or the moves. Manage the glare during sunrise and sunset.

Conclusion

Always remember that cars don’t crash, driver crash them and the most universally accepted definition of the best car driver would be a safe car driver. When you drive on the street, you are not only responsible for yourself but for all the other drivers and pedestrians on the street. While speed and exotic turns may give a thrill, the risk may not be worth it.
