Later in 1979 the first known toy to use infrared light and a corresponding sensor was manufactured and marketed named as the “Star Trek Electronic Phaser Guns Set.” In 1982, George Carter three while watching Star Wars got an idea to design an arena-based system for playing a scored version of the game. He opened the first photon center in Dallas Texas on March 24, 1984. Later he was awarded for his work by International Laser Tag Association and is called as the founder of laser tag industry. In 1986 first Photon toy hit the market introduced by Worlds of Wonder and it became larger and larger in the following years.
Features
In addition to the standard team and solo matches many special matches with a set of goals are played in laser tag birthday parties. Specialty games include:
Capture the flag: This is where a player steals the opponent’s flag and takes it back to their own base in order to score a point or win the match.
Protect the VIP: The team with the VIP must hide and conceal him for a set length of time while the opposing team tries to eliminate the VIP within the given time limit.
Stealth or Invisibility matches: It is where the lights indicating a player's target sensors are deactivated.
Base-centric matches: It is in which a team must defend a base while simultaneously attacking the opponent's base.
"Borg" matches: It is in which players on a team share a pool of commonly held resources.
Juggernaut Matches: In this type of laser tag birthday parties game, one player is allocated as the 'juggernaut' and gains points for staying as the juggernaut. Other players attempt to eliminate this player and thus become the juggernaut themselves.
Elimination matches: It is where a player can become eliminated if tagged a certain number of times.
Domination Matches: It is where a player gains points for possessing a field target for certain lengths of time.
Role-playing or Character Class Matches: It is where each player's equipment performs a different function.
Any one or more than that out of these specialty games can be set as a theme for the laser tag birthday parties. The laser tag game can be arranged outdoor and indoor as well. Indoor laser tag is carried on in large arenas which are kept dark and foggy. The arenas often are equipped with commercial laser tag operator. Contrary outdoor laser tag requires equipment which is expected to work well at large ranges, even in day light. Higher output power and specially designed optics are generally a requirement.
