Introduction
Holding a garage, thrift or yard sale is an excellent way to make a few bucks while removing the excess clutter from your home. Many choose to simply place their items outside and allow buyers to inquire about the prices. This is a great way to haggle with buyers, but can become distracting if there is a surge of people. Creating your own for sale tickets for your garage, yard or estate sale is an inexpensive, quick way to price items and get them sold.
Step 1
Purchase premade for sale tickets at a department or hardware store. If you don’t want to spend the extra cash, use masking tape or plain white tags to create the for sale tickets. Purchasing brightly colored for sale tickets allows you to color code the tags based on product. For instance, use pink tags on the clothing, yellow for household goods and green for toys. Don’t waste your time counting every single item going into the sale and instead purchase more for sale tickets that you deem necessary for the yard sale. This way you’ll have extras in case you mess up or find more items in your home and garage to sell.
Step 2
Divide all of the items for sale before creating the for sale tickets. For instance, divide the items into the following categories to organize the sale with greater ease: housewares, adult clothing, children’s clothing, toys, bedding and linens and miscellaneous. Once again, color code these items to keep an accurate record of what you’ve sold and how much money you’ve made. This is especially handy if you’re hosting a multi-family yard sale with your friends and neighbors.
Step 3
Price the items accordingly. Keep in mind their condition and age when you’re creating your for sale tickets. Use a pen instead of a permanent marker to ensure the numbers don’t smudge, or smear onto the clothing or other items. Don’t price your adult clothing, including pants, tops, sweaters and sweatshirts, over $8 to $10.
Step 4
Winter coats are the exception, especially if the items are in excellent condition and a brand name. If this is the case, price these for sale tickets at anywhere from $10 to $30. The price of children’s clothing is also dependent on the brand and condition of the garments. As a rule, don’t price children’s clothing items over $5 if you want them to sell. Toys are generally the easiest items to price, especially if you’re only after ridding your home of excess clutter. Price plush animals at no more than 50 cents to $1 a piece.
Step 5
Create the for sale tickets in sections to avoid tiring yourself before all the items are priced. Place self-adhesive for sale tickets on a noticeable place, such as the shirt’s upper corner or the front of pants, to ensure the buyers can see them. Avoid using self-adhesive for sale tickets on stuffed animals, as they have a tendency to fall off. Conversely, avoid placing self-adhesive for sale tickets on plastic items, including housewares, toys and bins, as these can be difficult to remove.
