Introduction
Alicante is the capital city of Alicante province in Spain. Its economy is predominantly based on tourism due to the proximity of the Costa Blanca beaches. In addition, the real estate boom in the 1960's and the 1990's contributed to the revenues of the city with affluent Spaniards and foreigners, notably UK nationals, building secondary residences in the area. Thus, the airport in Alicante is a busy one and there are many flights to and from Alicante. The volume of air traffic received by the city is comparable to major airports such as Madrid, Barcelona, and Las Palmas.
Step 1
Knowing which airlines have flights to Alicante is essential to plan your travel routes. To get this information, simply look at the airport website of Alicante and check which airlines have flights to the city. In fact, all flights going to Alicante are serviced by major European cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, Copenhagen, and London.
Step 2
There are only two flights to Alicante coming from outside of Europe and these are planes arriving from Algiers and Oran on Air Algerie. The rest of the flights to Alicante come from European countries. Thus, if you are not coming from any of the European cities, it is not possible to fly directly to Alicante.
Step 3
A good alternative is to check with budget airlines. Ryan Air operates flights to Alicante. It has planes leaving from Billund in Denmark, Bristol, Dublin, Cork, London Stansted and Birmingham in the UK. Ryan Air has also flights leaving from Bucharest, Budapest, and Krakow to Alicante. Other budget airlines that operate flights to Alicante include Jet Air, Easy Jet, Monarch Airlines, BMI Baby, and Jet.2 Com Limited.
Step 4
Norway has its budget airline, too called the Norwegian Air Shuttle flying from Norwegian cities such as Alesund and Bergen and Copenhagen in Denmark. Another budget airline is Wizz Air Hungary offering flights to Alicante from Bucharest while Transavia Holland BV has planes leaving from Eindhoven and Amsterdam. Spain’s low cost airline, Vueling offers flights to Alicante from Barcelona and Iberia’s franchise airline, Air Nostrum has flights to Alicante from Bilbao. If you are in Switzerland, it is also possible to catch flights to Alicante from Basel on Easy Jet Switzerland.
Step 5
The only regular commercial airlines are Aer Lingus and Air Berlin. Aer Lingus, the national carrier of Ireland has flights to Alicante leaving from Cork, Dublin, and Belfast. Air Berlin which is Germany’s second largest airline also offers flights to Alicante from Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt, Palma de Mallorca, Stuttgart, and Zurich.
Step 6
Because there is no direct flight to Alicante apart from stopping over in one of the above cities, the best option is to book flights to any of these major cities and take regular or commercially scheduled flights to Alicante. You can buy tickets from travel websites and/or use price comparison sites such as Cheapflights, Opodo, and Expedia or book directly with the airlines mentioned flying to Alicante.
Tips
A good way to save on airfares is to use a split ticket once you get to Europe and fly on budget airlines. You will often find cheap flights to Alicante and elsewhere in Europe for as low as £10.99.
