Everything You Should Know About High Beach Tides

Introduction

Going to the seaside brings with it excitement for those of us who do not live in coastal areas as the thrill of being near the sea is something quite inherent. There is just something about the wide expanse of blue and green which makes us human beings' eyes sparkle with joy! A beach is a good way to relax, have fun and people of all ages have something interesting to do on a beach. However, when going to a beach, high tides and low tides are something you should keep track of to be sure of your safety on the beach.

As the nature of tides differs from day to day, make sure you find out when the high tide will occur. Prediction for when the beach high tide will be in is easy to find. This is because when a tide is high, the beach may be wholly submerged under it – you must have seen pictures of how different a beach looks when the high tide is in. You certainly do not want to be caught swimming at high tide, as this poses the risk of being trapped against the cliffs and not being able to find a way out.

Tides do not always vary only once in a day and they are of two types. At one beach, high tide and low tide may occur once each day, while at another, they occur twice each day. The former are called diurnal tides, while the latter are semi-diurnal tides. Find out what kind of tide takes place at the beach you are going to pay a visit to.

Keep safety rules in mind. Often, you will be told there are specific areas you can swim in because beach high tide and low tide can be handled by the security guards. In such a scenario, make sure you swim only in the patrolled areas and near the nets. Doing otherwise could lead to trouble. Beaches that are not patrolled are usually so because they do not pose a risk, but be sure to be alert and aware even then.

There are also local laws enacted by beach security authorities to prevent the visitors from being caught unawares. Some of these involve the placement of tents, temporary shelters etc. on the beach. These have to be placed at a minimum distance, this ensures the safety of the shelters and tents, and also provides a path for rescue workers in case of an emergency, such as people being trapped because of high tide.

Also, a number of activities on the beach like diving and fishing can get affected due to tides. People with babies and kids need to be extra cautious while on the beach. Be vigilant and don’t let them out of your sight when you are on the beach.
