Introduction
The Airport Ontario was formerly known as the ‘Ontario International Airport’. The Airport Ontario is the airport for the city of Ontario in San Bernardino County, In California USA. This airport was built in 1923 for a flying club. With the passage of time, they kept buying more land for the extension of the airport Ontario.
History
It was in the 1940’s that they bought more land and the airport Ontario built new runways. And eventually the flights started pouring in. During the Second World War, the airport was used as a training base and also as an operating base. It was in 1946, that the airport was given the title of ‘Ontario International Airport’. More and more airlines started landing on the Ontario airport. In 1967, the Airport Ontario and Los Angeles entered into an agreement, and the joined forces.
Features
The airport Ontario is now a proper Airport in the area. It is known as the third largest airport in the region, the other being LAX and the John Wayne Airport. Whenever LAX is not available for landings, due to being too busy or due to bad weather conditions, Airport Ontario is used as the substitute airport. Flights that need to refuel also stop at the Airport Ontario to refuel. All these things mentioned above, lead to the Airport Ontario being called LA/Ontario International Airport in 2006. The other reason for the change in the name was to make sure the airport wasn’t confused with the Canadian Ontario. The recent decline in the Airport Ontario’s traffic of passengers due to the Economic downturn is alarming, and this recession is expected to get better at a snail’s pace. The passengers that have experienced this airport claim that it’s a good, convenient and well facilitated airport. The airport functions 24/7, therefore there are concerns about the noise, that’s why the flights coming in late at night are directed to the East Runway. This is an imperative measure that the airport Ontario needs to take, so the neighborhoods close by and the surroundings don’t get disturbed.

The Airport is very popular with Hollywood; they use the Airport Ontario as a set for recreating other airports. Sometimes the Airport Ontario is used as the Ontario airport itself. It has been featured in TV series, such as Zodiac, and 24. It has also been used in several movies too. The fact that this airport, isn’t as busy as the others, it’s smaller compared to the others as well, makes it a very good location. The airport Ontario just has three terminals. This can give a fair idea of the airports capacity. There are busses, taxis and trains available for the incoming passengers to reach the town nearby. There are car rental services available as well, but the availability of these services depends on the passenger traffic and what part of the day it is. There other facilities that are also available for the passengers, there are ATM’s, Shopping stores, Cafes and Restaurants for coffee and snacks, and payphones etc.
