Introduction
California is a state located on the west coast of the United States of America. It is by far the most populated US state and the third most extensive (following Alaska and Texas). Its capital is Sacramento, but it isn’t the largest city yet. California’s diverse geography ranges from the Pacific coast in the west, to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east and from the Redwood – Douglas forests of the northwest to the Mojave Desert areas in the southeast. The center of the state is dominated by Central Valley, a major agricultural area. The Californian state contains both the highest and lowest points in the United States (Mount Whitney and the Death Valley). One of its many abbreviations is CA. due to its high number of inhabitants and many geographical forms this state has many airports.
Large CA Airport
Los Angeles International Airport CA. located in the Los Angeles community of Westchester, Los Angeles International Airport CA is bounded on the south by the city of El Segundo, on the east by the city of Inglewood, and on the north by the Los Angeles County small boat harbor community of Marina del Rey. In 2009, the Los Angeles International Airport served nearly 60 million passengers, making it the busiest airport in California and the 6th busiest airport in the world.
San Francisco International Airport CA is located about 13 miles south of Downtown San Francisco, in a San Mateo County area adjacent to the cities of San Bruno and Millbrae. In 2009 the San Francisco International Airport CA transported about 37 million passengers, making it the 2nd busiest airport in California, the 10th busiest airport in the United States and the 20th busiest airport in the world.
Medium size airports
There are six medium size airports in California, these airports being categorized as medium hub because they each count between 0.25% and 1% of the total number of airline passengers who have boarded airplanes in the United States of America. These airports are Burbank Airport, Oakland International Airport CA, Ontario International Airport, Sacramento International Airport, San Jose International Airport and John Wayne Airport of Orange County. These medium-sized airports are also very important because most of them are primary hubs for different American companies or just because they are links between other airports. Also these medium size hubs are very important due to the fact that they have international routes.
Small size hubs
There are four airports in California categorized by the Federal Aviation Administration as small hub airports because they each represent 0.05% and 0.25% of the total airline passengers boarding airplanes on United States territory. These are the Fresno – Yosemite International Airport, the Long Beach Airport, the Palm Springs Airport and the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport. Among these small size hubs, the United States’ Federal Aviation Administration has come up with another category for airports. The primary non hub airports are the smallest in size and about what concerns their traffic (by traffic you should understand the passenger flow during a year) it is a very small one.
