Introduction
The University Of Notre Dame is primarily a research institute with its origins rooted deep in the ideologies of Christianity. Football dame or simply the football teams of this University are famous as the Fighting Irish. The football dame has achieved numerous accolades and awards in the many competitions they took part in.
History
Football has been considered to be played by humans since medieval times, though the exact form in which it was played and the rules used during the match were quite different than the ones used in the 21st century. Although the University Of Notre Dame was established in 1842, the first ever football match played here is recorded to be played in 1887, but after that there was no looking back. The name Fighting Irish was adopted by football dame in the 1920s. Till present they have been successful in achieving thirteen consensus national championships; a feat considered too great. Also, they have been the winner of the Heisman Trophy, not once but seven times.
Features
The University Of Notre Dame has an on-campus football stadium for its intercollegiate football matches. Although this stadium is not equipped with high-tech scoreboards, its traditional look and vastness gives it an edge like no other stadium owned by a university or college. Also, there is another field, known as the Cartier Field, used for only practice matches of the Fighting Irish teams. Moreover, this institute truly cares for the fitness and health of its students. Due to this reason, they have a special state-of-the-art, high-tech athletic complex known as Guglielmino Athletics Complex- in the name of the Don F. Guglielmino and his family, who bore the financial expenses of establishing this Complex. Furthermore, the statistical data regarding the football matches played by football dame reveal that they have lost the minimum number of matches overall as compared to other Universities’ football teams. Also, their winning percentage rises to about 71%, keeping in view the total number of matches they have played in the year 2011.

This is primarily because football is being played on the grounds of this institute for more than hundred and fifty years. The traditions and guiding footsteps which this institute has followed, is something that gives the team members of the Fighting Irish the confidence and help in raising their morale.
