Introduction
The players of University of Minnesota are called the Golden Gophers. Basically, it is the name of the program carried out in the university. According to the records, it has been recorder to be one of the oldest programs carried out in the history of college football. So the football game played in this program of the college and university was termed as the gopher football. The players taking part in this game play under the caption of NCAA. The division of these players paying football under this platform is Division I. The subdivision is named as the Football Bowl Subdivision.
The success of Golden Gophers in the gopher football game is claimed to be almost six times winning the national championship. In addition to this these players have made an all time favorite record of 646–481–44. This record was made in November, 2011. The playing grounds for the players of gopher football are well maintained and these are sponsored in advance. It is almost since 2009 that the Gophers have played almost all of their home games at the TCF Bank Stadium in the city of Minneapolis, which is located in the state of Minnesota. The advent of the gopher football was seen in 1882. This was the time when the football team of the Golden Gophers belonging to the same college as the name of the team which is situated in Minnesota played their first game. The game was played on September 29 in 1882. It was played on 29th of September. It was a commendable game in witch the team of the Golden Gophers College won with a score difference of 4–0. This victory was achieved over the university of Hamlin. It was basically the first time when the term gopher football was used. After that almost 8 years later a historical victory was earned by the Gophers over the Wisconsin in which they achieved a remarkable success with a score of 63–0.

Since then there were regular games carried out between the Gophers and the Badgers except the year of 1906 when there was no game played between the two teams. According to the historical record of the gopher football games, The 117 game played by the two teams against each other is considered to be the most common and prominent rivalry in whole Division I of the football played in college in those days. In short it was due to the successive and repeated success of the gophers in this game that has led to the designation of the game in their name, so called as gopher football.
The glory period of the gophers in football was seen from 1900 to 1919 when they reported successive and continuous success stories in this game. However,change of coaches after that had an impact on the performance of the players in the gopher football. It was after 1934 that the new coach of the team led to their success stories again from 1934 to 1936.
