Introduction
When we talk about football Romania is not the country that we fist refer to. But in Romania football is a very beautiful sport and it is at high demand. In Romania football is the only sport that is receiving funding from sponsorships and from people that want to invest in sport. Romania is not a country that is investing in other sports the only sport that is receiving money is football. In Romania football is very appreciated by all the people and the interest in football has increased in the last years. In Romania football is on the rise because it’s receiving more funds and now the media is doing their part in creating a good and competitive football league.
History
In Romania football makes people happy every time the Romanian national team manages to win, unfortunately the Romanian national team is currently in a slump and is not performing very well. The Romanian national team was a very good opponent in the 90’s for all the world’s big teams but since then the national team is going through a rough time. The greatest performance of the Romanian football national team was reaching the quarterfinal of the 1994 world cup that was held by the United States of America. The Romanian team was defeated then by the Sweden team, it was an extraordinary game that was decided by penalties. After 90 minutes of play, the game was tied so the game had to go to overtime. This game is remembered as the most dramatic game in Romanian football history.
The national team is not the only Romanian football team that made millions of people happy with great performances. In 1986 the Romanian team Steaua Bucharest won the Champions Cup defeating Barcelona in the final match after an incredible match that was decided by penalties. It was the high point for football fans all over Romania, Steaua managed to win the cup after an incredible performance from their goalkeeper Helmuth Duckadam who managed to block 4 penalty kicks. Duckadam performance has never been reached again. The win Steaua achieved then against Barcelona is one of the most socking wins in the history of football. It was a real Cinderella story and players showed incredible determination and skill. It was one of those games that have been won with the heart.

Now in Romania football is not achieving very high performances but this is influenced by the countries economical situation. In Romania football is the number one sport and there are a lot of kids that want to become professional football players. In the past years youth center have received funding so the future of Romanian football can be again bright and full of success.
In Romania football brings a lot of people to the stadium and now that Romania has a great stadium maybe Romanian football will once again be very competitive. The UEFA Europa League final will be hosted in Romania on the new National stadium and it will be a true celebration for football in Romania.
