Introduction
The New Orleans Saints is an American professional football franchise based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They are currently members of the Southern Division of the National Football Conference of the National Football League. Founded by John W. Mecom, Jr. and David Dixon, the first of the Saints football games was played at Tulane Stadium in the year 1967.
Talking about the games Saints Football has played over the years, the team has performed rather inconsistently throughout football history:
History
Though it was founded in the year 1967, the team experienced its first winning season (above .500) only in the year 1987, it also happens to be the year they made their first playoff appearance. During one of their very bad phases, they were nicknamed, ‘The Ain’ts’. They used to play in a very weak division (the NFC West) where the only team that stood out was the 49ers.
The first playoff win witnessed in a Saints football game was in the year 2000. The best season for them has been the 2009-2010 season, where they went on to win the Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts.
What makes the Saints football games very entertaining for their fans is that they now have a greater offence side. In fact, in 2011 they upset many long standing NFL records for offence and quite arguably had one of the best offences in NFL history. The Saints have been racking up impressive numbers on offence since Sean Payton and Drew Brees joined the team in 2006. However, what is disappointing in Saints football games is that they have had problems having a defense that consistently supports the offence in turnovers or critical stops. Only in 2009 did the Saints defense get consistent turnovers to allow the Saints to earn its first super bowl win.
Features
The most recent season has been an exciting one for those who follow Saints football games - The Saints began this season with a loss against the Green Bay Packers, but then they rebounded for the next four weeks to bring their record to 4-1. A loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought the record to 4-2, but the team bounced back with an amazing win against the struggling Indianapolis Colts. A surprise loss to the St. Louis Rams resulted in the record dropping to 5-3. In the next seven weeks, the Saints beat talented teams such as the eventual Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons, bringing their season record to 12-3.
Tips and comments
That the fans love Saints football games is evident through the establishment of The Saints Hall of Fame, which is a non-profit organization created by and for the fans of the team to protect, preserve, promote and present the history of the franchise. The Saints Hall of Fame is located at 415 Williams Boulevard in the Rivertown section of Kenner. Open from 9 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, the Hall of Fame features exhibits and memorabilia covering the entire history of the Saints from their formation through the current season. Due to the damages in the building that occurred during Hurricane Katrina, the Hall of Fame is temporarily located at Gate B in the New Orleans Superdome.
