Introduction
House (also known as House, M.D.) is an American television medical drama that made its debut in year 2004. The storyline of the show revolves around the life of an unconventional and misanthropic medical genius, Dr House. House often clashes with his fellow physicians, including his own diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients' illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights. Here are ten facts about Dr House that you may not have known:
History
The idea for the character of Dr House came from David Shore, the creator of the character of Dr House. He felt it'd be great to see what doctors say or feel about their patients after they leave the [examination] room.
House was to be Sherlock Holmes to the other young doctors. Shore said that Dr House would pride himself on being the smartest person in the room. He cares as much about solving the mystery as he does about treating the patient.
Hugh Laurie, who plays House on the show, is actually British. He has acted in many British comedy films and television series' but House is his first attempt on American television.
During Hugh Laurie's audition, David Shore says that Bryan Singer, one of the executive producers, said, "See, this is what I want: an American guy." Singer was completely unaware of the fact that Laurie is English!

Hugh Laurie's own dad was a doctor, and he feels a twinge of guilt at playing the role of Dr House on the show and getting paid for becoming a fake doctor.
When he first read the script for House, Hugh Laurie had no idea that the show would revolve around Dr House. He had a very different idea about what he would be expected to do on the show – He presumed that Wilson was the main guy, the idealist trying to save the world. He had thought he’d work one or two days a week and would then take it easy.
Laurie says, the one thing he got right even before playing Dr House was seeing or hearing the rhythm of how Dr House would speak. He further adds it was like reading music; he’d see the words as dots on a page and knew how it's supposed to sound.
It was Katie, an executive producer of the show, who emphasized on House's style. Because of the pauses he uses, audiences are able to see House really contemplating his cases. It made the character seem strong and engaging, It was better than having some guy magnanimously spewing out long lines of medical jargon.
Hugh Laurie, apart from having played Dr House, had played the role of dad in the famous movie Stuart Little, he was one of the henchmen in 101 Dalmatians!
Tips and comments
It is a little surprising that Hugh Laurie suffers from clinical depression and his bouts of depression leave him feeling pretty worthless. So much so that even with all the success House has brought him and the fact he gives a pretty phenomenal performance, Laurie feels he doesn't deserve it. In fact he can often be seen on the set of House sitting on the pavement contemplating, had he worked hard enough.
