For the best price, choose to bundle all three services. Over the price of having each service through a separate company, the cost of the phone ends up only being a few dollars more.

• Choose home phone service that works over the Internet. Services such as Magic Jack offer deeply discounted telephone costs. The yearly price is often less than a normal monthly phone bill would be.

• Inquire about rates to countries you often call. Ask about specials for calling certain countries. Many home phone companies now offer special packages for those who will be using international calling.
• Be sure to keep track of your international calling as overages can add up quickly. Using a timer and jotting down how many minutes each month have been used is a good way to keep track.

• Take the time to read the fine print. While you may think that you have unlimited calling, you may find out that your idea of unlimited and the home phone company's idea of unlimited are two different things. For example someone with a teen in the house  may not realize that the child spends hours and hours each day calling a chat line in another city. The home phone company does see this though and may determine that the amount of time spent with this telephone number is excessive. This could result in a higher bill than you expected. Or an exhausting back and forth ordeal where you try to prove that you are not running a business or using the phone for reasons that are prohibited. Save yourself from possible problems later, read the entire contract and ask questions if you are unsure about anything.
