Shopping for a new home can be filled with excitement and frustration. Of course you want to find the perfect home, however, where will you begin? Working with a realtor is a good way to find homes for sale in your area. You can also begin the search on your own. If you know what you are looking for, you get started while waiting for your realtor to find homes  for sale in your part of town.

Step 1

• Read Craigslist ads for homes for sale in the city or town you are interested in living in. You will find that many of the ads have photos so you can get a good idea of what the inside of the home looks like. Often you will be able to email questions about the homes for sale in Criagslist ads. One word of caution, if an ad for a home for sale in your city seems to good to be true, it probably is. Be as specific as possible with your wants. It may be a long shot but you never know, someone who has just the type of house you are looking for could get in touch with you.

Once you do find a home for sale in your area that you have a serious interest in, spend the money to get an inspection. Of course buying a house is a big expense and no one wants to spend more money than necessary, but an inspection before you buy the house, can save you a lot of money and stress down the line.

If there are any issues on your credit report, working on those before you begin actively trying to obtain a mortgage is a good idea. You will want your credit score as high as possible in order to get the best rates. These days, mortgages are harder to get so you want to do what you can to ensure that you will be able to qualify.
