Great Advice For Jobs Home Health

Home health jobs are a growing industry due to the large elderly population in America. Patients may require special care while rehabilitating from an injury or illness and choose to have it provided at home. A number of services are offered in the home for the convenience of the patient and may be covered by health insurance companies or Medicare. Various home health jobs are available in the home health industry.

Step 1

Skilled Nursing Care as Home Health Jobs:

Registered Nurse – A student must graduate from a nursing program at a college or university and pass the national licensing exam to become a registered nurse, before taking home health jobs. Duties of a registered nurse include, but are not limited to: administering medication and treatment, inserting and observing IV lines, recording patient symptoms and medical history, observing patients, assist with diagnostic testing, operate medical equipment, and educate the patient and family. A home health registered nurse provides advice and emotional support to the patient and family members.

Step 2

Licensed Practical Nurse – A student must graduate from a one-year program to become a licensed practical nurse. The nurse may check vital signs, dress wounds; give injections and enemas, monitor catheters and other duties are all parts of this type of home health jobs. An LPN is one of the most popular home health jobs.

Step 3

Therapy as Home Health Jobs:

Physical Therapist - A student must obtain a four-year degree from an accredited college or university before being accepted into a two-year or more physical therapy program. Physical therapists treat individuals with medical problems, illnesses or injuries to regain or prevent the loss of movement, reduce pain, and restore function to perform activities for daily life. The therapists design a customized plan for each patient that may include exercise, therapy and assistive or adaptive equipment when necessary.

Step 4

Occupational Therapist – An occupational therapist must obtain at least a master’s degree before enrolling in an occupational therapy program. After completion of an accredited program, the student must pass a national certification exam. The therapists often work with patients that have suffered from a developmentally, emotionally, mentally or physically disabling condition to improve their ability to perform daily tasks, which may include compensating for permanent loss of function.

Step 5

Other Services of Home Health Jobs:

Home Health Aide – Aides are generally trained on the job by a skilled nurse or supervisor. For Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement, aides are required to receive 75 hours of training and pass a competency evaluation or state certification test. Aides assist disabled clients that need more care than family and friends are able to provide. An aide may help bathe a patient, prepare meals, change bed linens or wash clothes for the patient only.

Step 6

Medical Social Worker – A bachelor’s degree is required for most entry-level positions; however, a master’s degree may be required for a supervisory position. Families may require assistance to identify community resources to meet the financial and emotional needs faced by the illness, injury or disability of the patient. A social worker provided by a home health agency is an excellent source of information and assistance for family members during the transition in caring for the patient.
