Introduction

Almost all households own at least one type of outdoor grilling device. There are various reasons for choosing one type of home grill over the other. There are two sides to grilling the choice of using gas or charcoal. Tasting the end result of both types of grilling would help to determine which type of grilling would is preferred.

Step 1

Propane gas grills are available in a variety of different styles and sizes. While this style of home grill is a great alternative to a charcoal grill, it uses gas that is under pressure to cook with, so you must take care when using it.

Step 2

Gas grilling is by far the cleanest, quickest and most convenient way of home grilling. The simplicity of turning a knob, lighting the grill and selecting the temperature that you wish to use can make grilling with gas easy and very convenient. Liquid propane tanks are used and they can be either replaced or purchased when the current tank is empty. It is the simplified way to grill out and due to the gas burning clean it does not have any effect on the taste of the grilled foods.

Step 3

Following proper safety procedures will help you stay safe while gas grilling. If your home grill has been sitting for a while, insects and other small animals may have chosen your grill to make a home in. You need to be sure that all of the gas jets that supply gas to your propane grill are free from insects or other sources of blockage in order to make sure safe distribution of the propane gas.

Step 4

Clean the grease off of your home grill grates and the inside of the grill regularly to prevent a grease fire from starting. Grease is highly flammable, and can catch on fire if it is allowed to build up inside of your propane grill. Clean the inside of your home grill as well as the grill grates regularly to prevent a grease fire from occurring.

If your home grill does not have an automatic ignition switch or if this switch has failed, you will need to use an alternate source for lighting your grill. A long game or electric grills lighter are both safe alternatives for lighting a propane gas grill. Be sure that the lid is open during the lighting process so that propane gas is not able to build up inside of the grill.

Never place your face over the home grill while igniting your propane gas grill. Stand back and place the game or lighter that you are using next to the jets that dispense the propane gas. If your game or lighter is not long enough, use a pair of pliers to extend your reach.

Step 5

Charcoal grilling can be messier, but it does create a smoked flavor to the foods that are grilled and meats are seared with the hot heat of the charcoals. More work is needed in preparing a charcoal grill for grilling. The briquettes have to be placed and stacked in the grill. They then have to be doused with charcoal lighter fluid. Once the briquettes are ignited, enough time must be allowed for the briquettes to produce an even glow. Once the grilling process starts the result of charcoal grilling meats can create a caramelized smoke flavored crust that you cannot achieve by using a gas grill. When the grilling process finished, the charcoal grill must be allowed to cool after the coals have burned down to ash. The ashes must then be emptied into a safe place. Charcoal grilling is more portable. it can be loaded and taken to wherever you would like to grill.
