How To Decorate Your Home Drapes And Window Treatments

There are only two things that really bring out the beauty and décor in a home. The first is the main seating (sofa) or the bed spread on the bed in case of bedrooms. The second are drapes or any kind of window treatments. The reason is that these are the only two biggest consumer of cloth in a room and this is where you get to design the look of the room and bring out the theme. This is also why it’s the most time consuming and difficult decision to make on what kind of design or theme we give to our windows or the bed spread. Today we’ll learning on how to design drapes or window treatments in any room of the home. When we say window treatments we mean any other kind of décor that’s a substitute for drapes, like blinds, shades and tinted windows and others.

Step 1

The first thing you need to be able to do is decide the kind of window treatment you want to be done in your home. This is the hardest part. Do you want drapes, blinds or just shades on the window? If so what color theme and design would look best? The easy way out is looking into what is most in fashion. In some countries bedrooms look better with wooden blinds, while in some there’s no option compared to pretty curtains. The best way to catch up with fashion is pick up a magazine or go to the market and see what people are buying.

Step 2

Next, make sure that the color theme and type you chose is what you like and represents your taste and not just what people like. Drapes are usually for the darker part of the home like bedrooms, lounge, TV room, living rooms while shades and blinds best go in rooms that require lots of sunlight like kitchen, pool house, the garden den and maybe dad’s office. Blinds look best in offices and bedroom if the room has wooden floors or has more of a wooden theme.

Step 3

Now you need to decide the design and color theme for your drapes. This is the most time consuming stage, because you need to hunt for your favorite pattern and color of drapes in the market. Go to the curtain market and check out the designs, the color patterns and the printing on the cloths, the fabrics and the style. Get the ones that go best with the overall theme of your home.

Step 4

You can create combos of two different patterns and colors to make the drapes look very trendy. You have many window treatment designs to choose from like panels, tiebacks, upper border with fall curtain, a “Jakat” (fabric) blind with curtains is also very fashionable these days. The plain cloth blinds usually have beads embroidery and designs sown into the middle and the two side curtains shape the blind as border, making the window look like a framed picture. These designs can in both as drapes and blinds used in kitchens or bedrooms of your home. This design is best for living rooms. Look at magazines for more design options

Step 5

Now you have to see if the color combo and design of the drapes that you chose goes with the rest of the furniture and theme of the room in your home. The sofas and the bed spread in the room should either match or compliment the window treatment’s design and color. If they are not synced then you will find it to be very odd in the room.
