Introduction
If high gas prices are keeping you and your family from going to the tropical island that you have been dreaming about all year, then we would like to introduce you to ‘staycations’. Staycations refers to a stay-at-home vacation. This is the time to unleash you inner goofball. A home vacation may sound boring but a bit of creativity and imagination with a whole lot of goofiness will turn your staycation into an unforgettable event. If you have kids and they have not yet reached the age where they understand all the monetary troubles and budgets that travelling requires, just explain to them in basic terms of your financial situation, and tell them you have something new in mind for this season.
Step 1
Visit a local museum
Museums have massive historical importance. They hold a collection of artifacts and world art and help you go back in time. They provide you with your history, help you know where you came from and where you belong. So visiting a local or nearby museum should be at the top of your list when you are planning your home vacation.
Step 2
Go camping
Just because this season you are at a home vacation, does not mean you cannot go camping! Pitch a tent in your backyard, let your kids help out, make some fire out of logs, and call it the countryside. If you really want to rough it up and if your children can handle it, then make the refrigerator out of bounds. Stay in the tent if/when it rains. Share scary stories while sitting around the fire and warm marshmallows.
Step 3
Plan a fun and relaxing day
Vacations are all about enjoyment and relaxation. On a home vacation, these can be achieved by planning a day or two at the beach or even a local pool, or simply planning a picnic and taking your kids to the park. Enjoy the outdoors, take a swim, catch fireflies, and look at birds and plants.
Step 4
Go wild on sports
Summer is the season for sports lovers. This season on your home vacation, grab some foam fingers and take your kids to the local game! Be it baseball or a soccer game; root for whichever team is winning, have lots of hotdogs, coke and chili fries.
Step 5
Finish your bucket list
We all have bucket lists; things we want to do before we die (or basically when we have time). So on this home vacation, do all the stuff that you never have time to do, alone, with your spouse or with your kids. Go ice skating, go hiking; buy books you have always wanted to read.
Tips
A Home vacation is only boring if you make it so! Be innovative, ask your children for ideas. Once you get started, there are so many things to do in your own town that you would be surprised. It will also teach your kids that you don’t have to spend money or blow out credit cards to have fun, because there is nothing better than to have a home vacation and do enjoyable stuff with your family.
