Introduction
The Broadway musical, Annie, has some of the best songs in Broadway performances. Originally performed in 1977 to rave reviews at the Alvin Theatre, currently the Neil Simon Theatre, Annie is a Tony Award winning musical that ran for six years. The musical depicts the life of a little orphan girl, Annie, and her friends at the orphanage before she is adopted. It has a number of notable songs in it that to this day are still loved and performed globally.

- Maybe – This is sung by Annie and the orphans in the orphanage. It is a song about hope and Annie one day finding her parents who abandoned her.
- It’s the hard knock life – This is another one of the songs that Annie sings with her friends at the orphanage. They have to do a lot of cleaning as punishment for wrong doing. This song talks about the tough, difficult times the girls are encountering at the orphanage. This is one of the most popular songs in this Broadway musical.
- It’s the hard knock life reprise – This is sung after Annie manages to run away from the orphanage.
- Tomorrow – The second of the most popular songs in Annie. She performs this song to a stray dog that she meets and intends to keep.
- We’d like to thank you (Hooverville) – This song is sung at a place dubbed Hooverville where all those suffering because of the Great Depression are now settled. This is one of the songs in Annie that she does not perform.
- Little girls – One of the sad songs in the musical. The orphanage matron, Miss Hannigan sings this to the girls after Annie is adopted and leaves the orphanage.
- I think I’m gonna like it here – One of the songs in honor of Annie coming to live in her new home. The servants are joyful to have a little girl living in the huge mansion. Grace, Mr. Warbucks assistant, sings along with the servants and Annie joins in as well.

- Easy street – Performed at the orphanage by the matron, her brother and his girlfriend. They are happy thinking about how to capitalize on Annie’s good fortune.
- You won’t be an orphan for long – The songs in honor of Annie take a new turn. The servants want to help Annie locate her parents.
- You’re never fully dressed without a smile (Fully dressed children) – Annie is at a radio station trying to locate her parents. The songs in this section are sung by Bert Healy the radio presenter and the girls at the orphanage.
- Something was missing – At the mansion Mr. Warbucks lets Annie know that he loves her.
- I don’t need anything but you – Mr. Warbucks wants to adopt Annie since her parents are still missing. The songs in the mansion are now a celebration of this new development.
- New deal for Christmas – Sadly, Annie learns that her parents died when she was a baby. However, she gets adopted and the orphanage matron is sent to jail along with her brother and his girlfriend.
