The first single released from that album was "My Name Is" and this made Eminem an artist to look out for. "Slim Shady LP" was a highly successful album for the rapper. His second major label debut "Marshall Mathers LP" was even more successful than "Slim Shady LP." His second major label debut came with success and with controversy.
Eminem began to have legal problems with his mother and with other rappers. Eminem's second album drew attention from the LGBT community for his homophobic material and many people began to blame his music on the influence on teenagers drug use and violent behavior. "the Eminem Show" was released in 2002 and was another successful album for Eminem. 2004's "Encore" was Eminem's last album before going on a 5 year sabbatical.
Two more album releases in 2009 and 2010 with "Relapse" and "Recovery" cemented Eminem with 13 Grammy Awards, one Academy Award, 10 number one albums, and 90 million records sold worldwide. Eminem is not only a rapper, but an actor and record producer. Eminem is the founder of Shady Records, which produces music for artists, such as Obie Trice and D12. Eminem starred in the commercially and critically acclaimed film "8 Mile" and the soundtrack for "8 Mile" was also a success.
