Introduction
Music has been around as long as the human race has existed and with it the guitar. Legends of the guitar are many but not all have managed to be considered among the best players of this wonderful instrument. Some of the legends of the guitar include:
Ace Frehley
This is one of the great legends of the guitar; he was born as Paul Daniel Frehley on April 27th 1951.Ace was the lead guitarists and founding member of the Kiss, a Rock band. He played with the band until his departure in 1982 and is best remembered for his rocking guitar solos. He is hailed as one of the legends of the guitar especially in the 70s who created frenetic atmospheric playing winning the admiration of his generation and spawning a new generation of players.
He wrote a book; Behind the Mask that is known to have inspired many guitarists to pick up their stringed instruments and play. Frehley is truly one of the legends of the guitar as he was the selling point of the Kiss band and whenever they released great hits he was the best selling of the among the four players. Some of the bands’ solo albums went on to win New York Groove awards making it to top twenties. His 2nd tenure with the Kiss band lasted until 2002 but since then he has not released any new music.
Ted Nugent
This is another true among the great legends of the guitar born as Theodore Ted Nugent on December 13th, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. He gained fame as a good guitarist initially as a member of the Amboy Dukes and was notable for his cool political views. As one of the true legends of the guitar his best songs included the Stranglehold, Free for All, Wang Dang Sweet Pootang and Cat Scratch.
Up to date he has managed to release more than 31 recordings selling above 35 million copies. Part of what made him famous and earned him a place among the legends of the guitar is his ability to play the semi- hollow Gibson Byrdland. He is also famous for his preference of live concerts playing on top of huge stacks of Marshall Amplifiers.
He has featured on famous shows such as Larry King and Politically Incorrect among others. Nugent was also a host to the reality show; wanted: Ted or Alive where participants had to compete for money as well as for opportunities to go hunting for their own food.
Tony Jommi
He was born Frank Anthony on February 19th 1948 and went on to become one of the legends of the guitar best known for playing with the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. This man is not considered as one of the great legends of the guitar for nothing as he was responsible for nearly writing the entire band’s music.
Currently he is involved in Heaven and Hell but has also played in several blues rock bands. The earliest of his engagements with such bands was in between 1964 and 1965.One of the unique issues that stands out for this man rated among the legends of the guitar is his loss of the tips of his middle and ring fingers when he was working in metal factory before he left the job to take up the guitar on fulltime basis.
