Introduction
In order to do well at call centre jobs, one must be able to do more than just answer the telephone. Call centre jobs require certain skills that will be needed by anyone who wants to be successful. One thing that all call centre jobs require is the ability to deal with many different types of people. You may be dealing with callers of all ages, you will also be dealing with many personality types. You will need the ability to stay calm when dealing with even the most difficult callers.
Step 1
Be prepared for your interview. Call center jobs are looking for a certain set of skills and will ask questions to determine whether you have these skills or not. Be ready to answer questions about your personality. You will be asked about handling pressure and your ability to multi task. You may be presented with some typical types of calls that one expects when working call centre jobs, you will be asked how you would have handled these calls. You may be also be asked for examples of how you have given spectacular customer service in the past.
Step 2
Before applying for call centre jobs, practice speaking on the telephone. Of course we all know how to talk on the phone. However, when working call centre jobs, our normal way of speaking may not be quite right. You want to speak clearly so the caller can understand you with no difficulties. You may have to slow down your normal speech pattern to achieve this. You also want to sound pleasant, yet authoritative.
Step 3
Work on your resume. You will have a better chance of being called to interview for call centre jobs if your resume shows that you possess the needed skills. Be sure to list any jobs that you have had that required dealing with the public, also highlight examples of your multi tasking skills. You should also have typing experience as well as at least basic computer skills.
Step 4
Gain experience by volunteering if you have none. If you do not have any experience with call centre jobs, see about volunteering to answer phones. You may be able to do this at a telethon or something along those lines. While you will not get paid, you will find valuable experience. You may also call around to social services agencies in your area to see if they are in need of volunteers to answer the telephone. You will not only be getting experience, but you will be helping out those in need as well.
Step 5
Be very aware of how you communicate when applying for call centre jobs. Whether you are communicating through email, over the telephone or in person, know that your communication skills are being evaluated. After all communication is an important part of all call centre jobs.
Tips
When working call centre jobs, always remain in control of the call. Be polite and pleasant, but stay in control.
Work on being able to type and talk to the customer at the same time. You will often be doing this in this type of job.
Be mindful of grammar and spelling when typing information.
