Introduction

People seek employment for a variety of reasons, including the need to pay household bills. For some people, a job offers a place to go and interact with others. If you are seeking employment, you may have utilized different options, ranging from mailing resumes to speaking with family. These are not your only employment options. When seeking a job, explore attending a job fair. A job fair can benefit you. It can help you gain active employment.

Step 1

Make sure that you recall the reasons for attending the job fair. On average, you have narrowed down the list of companies where you desire employment. Remember, if you have learned about different companies, you have the preparation needed to highlight your background. For example, as a chemical engineer, you would have studied the backgrounds of companies which hire chemical engineers. Benefit at the job fair by approaching the desired representatives with confidence. The company representatives will notice your confidence and may feel the need to learn more about your background.

Step 2

Learn more about different companies while attending a job fair. Of course, you may have obtained earlier information when you did your own research. Comapnies can make updates at any time. You need to learn more from the representatives during the actual job fair. According to the Portland Community College, be focused about the questions that you ask company representatives. Plan to center the questions on your desired job. For instance, if you are a retail manager, obtain information about the hours of a retail operation and specific job duties.

Step 3

Be prepared to meet company representatives at a job fair with a good attitude. A good attitude benefits you at the fair because representatives notice positive people. These are the candidates hired who can make the company reach its goals. Job fair representatives avoide potential candidates who have bad attitudes, such as poor manners. Make sure that you leave any negative feelings out of the fair. Have a pleasant smile and spend a few minutes speaking with representatives. If you are not interested in the position, you should continue to smile.

Step 4

Have the most professional resume available for a job fair. It does not matter if you are a recent high school graduate or an experienced executive, the resume still gives you the chance to reach company representatives. It is a good idea to have the resume proofread before the fair. Think of the proofreading as an investment you are making in yourself. A poorly done resume can damage your chances with representative. You go to a job fair to gain information and explore work opportunities.

Step 5

Be selective about obtaining business cards from representatives at the job fair. Some people visit fairs, collect business cards from different companies, and never look at them. The cards gather dust in a corner. You want to have cards from companies where you desire employment. At the job fair, pay attention to what each company representative says. If you want to explore further conversations, take a card and tuck it into your briefcase. Just be honest about calling the representative.

Tips

Wear well-pressed clothes and accesossories to the job fair. You do not want company representatives to dismiss you from potential employment. because of dress style.
