Introduction

Software engineering is a systematic and a disciplined approach to the development, operation and maintenance of software. The study of these approaches and applications is known as Software Engineering. There is significance of mathematics, computer sciences and its related practices. There is also analysis, design, assessment, implementation, testing, maintenance and re-engineering of software. The term software engineering was introduced in 1968, at the conference known as the NATO Software Engineering Conference.

There are almost 760,840 Software Engineering jobs or software engineers in the U.S in 2004. At the same time there were also practitioners and their count was approximately 1.4 million. There are many Software Engineering jobs which require employment or contracts. Some of the Software Engineers work as employer and some work at contract. They work with the businesses, nonprofit organizations or government agencies. Some of them work for themselves like freelancers. They perform software development process, if they are working in particular organization.

To get Software Engineering jobs, Software engineers can specialize themselves in industry like analysts, architects, developers, testers, technical support, middle-ware analysts and managers. and in academia like educators, researchers. Most of the software engineers work 40 hours in a week. Only 50 percent of the software engineers and 11 percent of the developers work for more than 50 hours in a week. There are least injuries in this kind of jobs but eye infections, eye strain, back discomfort, and hand and wrist problems can be there.

There are many jobs which a software engineer can apply for. Process Engineers should be good in planning, development as well as implementation of organizational and program-level management. The Senior Software Engineer or MDM Specialist is the person who should support and interact with business and other IT managers. He should be good in technical skills, in diagnosing and resolving complex problems in the systems.

Software engineers will provide research, development and testing on different technologies. She or he should be able to handle the problems facing digital forensic. Software Packaging Engineer is the person who is able to define the application standards, engineering and keeping secure the standard desktop platform. She should be good in architectural designs and software distribution infrastructure.

Senior Software engineers will serve as web master performing development as well as the implementation of the systems. He should be able to design and develop the multi-tier applications so that Information Assurance components of multiple programs can be enhanced and improved. He should be convenient in multiple software engineering languages. He should be good in database reporting as well.
