Introduction
Applications for jobs are pretty uniform for the most part. Most applications will have sections for each piece of information you are required to put on the application. Although some job applications are very similar in appearance, there may be a few that are much more detailed. Whatever the case may be, there are certain things you will need to do when filling out your next job application.
Step 1
Most job applications are going to start out by requiring your name, address, telephone number, and possibly your social security number. This is the section on the application that identifies you as the applicant for the job. When you complete this section you need to make sure you put your legal name and address as shown on your forms of identification. You will also want to make sure you give a phone number where you can be reached. This is how the employer will contact you in order to schedule an interview or discuss other matters related to your application.
Step 2
The next piece of information on most job applications that you will need to complete is information on the job you are applying for. In this section you will need to put the job title you are applying for and it may be that the employer wants to know what hours you are available to work. Whatever information your employer asks for is what you need to complete.
Step 3
About now, you should be working on completing the section that will ask for your work history. This may sometimes be sections that require great detail on jobs you have held in the past. Job applications will definitely ask for the business name, address, and telephone number. They may even require that you put your supervisors name and contact information on the application. There may also be a requirement where you have to list your job related duties and/or tasks. Make sure you complete this section and reveal as many details as you can so the potential employer can get an overall view of your job related experience.
Step 4
Last but not least, job applications will generally have a section that will ask you for personal references. When giving someone as a personal reference you will need to know the persons name, address, and most likely their telephone number. Many employers check references via telephone but there are some that will want a written reference. It’s a good idea to have your reference addresses handy so you can give the employer the information should they need it.
Step 5
The signature section is generally at the very end most job applications. This is where you will be putting your signature. There will also be a legal disclaimer that is included so you will be aware that any false information you give on an application can cause you some problems in the hiring process or, if the information is found to be untrue at any time during your employment, you can be dismissed from your job for lying on your application.
Some job applications may ask for additional information but the information here is what you can expect when it comes to filling out any job application.
Tips
When filling out any job application make sure you fill the application as neat and complete as possible.
Having a resume to submit with your application is a great addition and will help the potential employer get a better overall view of you as a potential candidate.
