Working from home as an employee or independent contractor is heavily dependent on having access to a computer. PC based home jobs are available for just about any task that can be accomplished away from a company's headquarters or physical location. However, just because workers can use a personal computer to work at home, that does not mean they can neglect the need to make sure the machine operates like the professional machines in the workplace.

As an example, computer based home jobs are heavily dependent on a machine that can stay powered on and operational for several hours throughout the day. Sometimes home based workers may need to have the computer on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if they need to run a computer server from the home.

Telecommuting or work from home is a relatively new, yet booming, form of earning an income. It is in a constant state of change, but there are a few factors that you can take into consideration when working at home.

Step 1

Obtain a desk that is specifically suited for computer based home jobs. You can find these desks at local furniture shops, department stores and online retailers who can ship these bulky products from local distribution centers in your area. You can find desks that are suited for both desktop or laptop computers. Obtain a desk with wheels if you need to move the computer around from room to room, or even within the room. These desks often have multi-tiered shelving where you can store additional computer peripherals, such as a printer.

Step 2

Obtain wireless networking equipment for your computer based home jobs. This includes a wireless router with compatible wireless adapters, that use the most currently wireless 802.11 protocols. Additionally, obtain a wireless printer. In many households with multiple computers, this is more economical for both professional and personal users to share a single Internet connection, not just computer based home jobs.

Step 3

Place the computer in a well ventilated and air-conditioned room while working computer based home jobs. The heat can make the environment uncomfortable. Also, the heat build-up can destroy your electronics over time, hindering your ability to work computer based home jobs.

Step 4
