How To Set Up An Email Account With Hotmail

Introduction

Hotmail is still one of the most popular email accounts used worldwide. An Hotmail email account is free and gives you the chance to join the millions of people who already have an account. When you sign up for the account, you will receive a Windows Live ID that is useful for other websites as well. You do not need more than basic information to complete the registration for an Hotmail email account. Once the account is established, you can use it immediately to send and receive emails. There is no waiting period. After you have set up your account, you can also set it up on any mobile phone featuring an email application.

Step 1

Access the Hotmail email website in your Web browser. You can opt to either type in the URL for the site in the address bar of your browser or do an online search for the site.

Click “Sign Up” when you reach the sign-in page for the Hotmail email website. When you sign up for an account, you are assigned a Windows Live ID that you can use while accessing a variety of Microsoft products including the gaming sites.

Step 3

Select an Hotmail email address user name. If the user name is taken, you will be prompted to select a different one. Suggestions for available user names will be listed below the field. If you want to use one of the suggested user names, click on the user name. If not, enter a different name if the one you want to use is taken.

Step 4

Enter your personal information in the appropriate fields. You will need to provide your name, country and zip code. You should also give your mobile number and an alternate email address. The information is used to help retrieve your log in information if you forget it in the future.

Step 5

Enter the CAPTCHA code in the field listed to complete your registration for the Hotmail email. The characters must be entered in the way in which they are presented to be accepted. If you are having trouble deciphering the code listed, click “New” to receive a new code. You can also click “Audio” to have the code read aloud to you.

Step 6

Click “I Accept” to finish the registration of your Hotmail email. If the registration is complete, a Welcome message will be displayed. The message will detail your account information and invite you to take a tutorial to get familiar with your new email Hotmail account. If the registration is unsuccessful, your registration page will be displayed again. You will need to correct any fields that are red before your Hotmail email will be setup.

Tips

Write down your registration information in a secure location to avoid being locked out of your account in the future. If you provided an alternate email address when you signed up for your email Hotmail, a confirmation message will be sent to that email account.

If you forget your log in information for your newly-established account, click “Forgot Username” from the Sign In screen. You will need to answer a series of questions to get access to your account.
