Introduction
Being released from the hospital or getting out of the bed at home after bodily injury or illness is only one part of the healing process. The other major consideration is recovery wellness. People have to make sure the body is able to perform its internal and natural healing functions over and above the superficial and artificial things that people do to promote the process of recovery wellness. For example, changing an old bandage and properly cleaning wound is important to prevent a build up of bacteria. Wearing warm clothes and socks while recovering from a cold or the flu is just as important as taking antibiotics and other medications. Taking your medicine as prescribed by a doctor is also important, period. The following three recovery tips can help most people speed up healing.
Step 1
Increase sleep duration to speed up recovery wellness. It's pretty much common knowledge that proper rest and relaxation is good for any injury or illness. However, many people don't realize that during evening slumber the body goes into repair mode. Even if you aren't sick, you body is performing maintenance on things like your cells and muscles. For example, if you strained a leg muscle at the gym, your body will sense the discomfort and spend time repairing the muscle while you are sleep. You may still feel some pain the next day, but it is probably considerably less pain than you felt before going to bed.
Step 2
Drink a lot of water to promote recovery wellness. The human body is said to be made of mostly water, some say more than half composed of this liquid. Your cells need water to function properly in the body. When your body senses that you are dehydrated, it goes into conservation mode, preventing the body from putting extra effort into your recovery. This is particularly important if an infection caused severe diarrhea.
Step 3
Tip 3
Undertake mentally enriching activities to promote recovery wellness. Watch a comedy special on the TV or on the Internet to make yourself laugh, if it does not hurt to do so. Listen to symphonic and orchestral music to calm your mind. Perform basic stretches to ease tension from being ill.
