Introduction
Science has succeeded in developing the ways that were considered least possible to alleviate any human illness. One such means is to have a less invasive surgical procedure which ensures less bleeding and quicker chances of healing. If a person is suffering from an abdominal cavity ailment such as appendicitis or gall bladder stones then he or she may be subjected to laparoscopic surgery or commonly known as lap surgery. In a typical lap surgery smaller incisions are made which also means lesser chances of infection.
Step 1
A lap surgery may be done to diagnose to get rid of any type of growth of endometrial tissue. This type of surgical procedure involves the assistance of a video camera. A laparoscopic surgery cannot be performed without the aid of a laparoscope.
Step 2
When a lap surgery is being conducted, a surgeon inserts through a tiny incision the laparoscope. A laparoscope is an instrument used for lighted viewing. These incisions may be up to half an inch. And then plastic tubes called ports are placed through these incisions. The camera and any other surgical instrument that is needed are then introduced in the cavity through the ports.
Step 3
The camera once inserted makes access to the patient possible as the internal images of the person can be viewed easily on TV monitors. If a surgeon is trained to do a lap surgery, he will opt for it as it has less operative discomfort and offers limited hospital stays along with much smaller scars. The surgeon sometimes might enlarge the cut for bigger organ's surgeries which involve pulling out the organ.
Step 4
The lap surgery procedure entails the inflation of the abdomen with a gas which may be nitrous oxide or carbon dioxide. The gas helps in such a way that it pushes back the abdominal cavity which makes its visibility to the surgeon clearer. Then the surgeon proceeds with the incision during the lap surgery and insertion of the laparoscope. This process may take up to 30-45 minutes.
For better viewing, additional incisions can be made, they are done to insert other surgical instruments or to move other internal organs. The surgeon may conduct a surgical removal of a diseased colon or rectum. Surgical removal of the entire large intestine may be done.
Step 5
Rectopexy may be done, which is a procedure in which stitches are used to guard the rectum in its proper position. The surgeon may go for any of the above procedures according to the requirement. The techniques adopted by him may include removing and cutting tissue or crushing a tissue with the help of laser beam. As soon as this is done the surgeon stitches close the incisions made.
Tips
Lap surgery is a non-hospitalized process and a patient can return to normal activities within one week. A lap surgery may be done to take a look at pelvic organs. As when the pelvic organs are viewed directly only then severity of the illness and confirmation of endometriosis is possible.
