How To Make a Home Spa Gift Basket

Introduction

A spa gift basket is a wonderful gift for any occasion, from birthdays and anniversaries to Valentine’s Day or Christmas. Unfortunately, the price tag attached to several professionally made spa gift baskets doesn’t quite fit into every person’s gift giving budget. Instead of breaking the bank on a professionally assembled spa gift basket, construct your own from items found at the local dollar and department stores to surprise your friends with your generosity and ingenuity. Here is how to create your own fun and unique spa gift baskets.

Step 1

Gather up all the items for your spa gift basket before you begin assembling them. Purchase several generic pieces for the spa gift baskets, including lotions, perfumes, scented candles and hand towels, if you’re making several baskets for a holiday or to sell. If you’re only making one basket for a particular friend or family member, customize the basket more to their tastes. For instance, if you have a friend that enjoys a certain scent or brand of products, include those in the basket.

Step 2

Mix inexpensive and expensive items to ensure you’re offering up a great product or present without breaking the bank. If you‘re not sure what a friend or family member would enjoy in their basket, do a little investigating first. Ask the person or his friends or spouse about any favorite products or scents. Include special and surprise treats or personalize the basket further with tickets to a favorite movie theater or a photo of the two of you together.

Step 3

Inspect the products and remove the price tags before assembling the spa gift basket. Locate a plastic or rattan or wicker basket that is large enough to accommodate the products. Fill the bottom of the basket with a towel, tissue paper or decorative paper. Roll any bathrobes, towels or other products and tie them with a ribbon.

Step 4

Place these larger items into the bottom of the basket first and fill in the spaces with the other items, including any perfumes, lotions, stuffed animals, loofahs, body poofs, body oils or whatever else you’ve decided to place inside the basket. Leave the products as is or add small decorative items to give the basket a finished appearance.

Step 5

Wrap up the basket with shrink wrap, which is available for purchase at grocery or hardware stores. The shrink wrap is placed around the basket and heated with a hair dryer until the desired size is achieved. If you don’t like shrink wrap, use netting or any other clear or transparent product. Finish the basket with a ribbon, balloon and a card.

Tips

If you’re constructing the basket for a man, keep his tastes in mind. Many men won’t enjoy a basket filled with over-powering scented candles or lotions that smell like lilac and rose. Instead, purchase products specifically designed for men for the basket. Finish off this basket with a bathrobe, a pair of comfortable slippers or bottle of cologne. If you’re having an issue deciding on the products or theme for your spa gift basket, visit a local spa or salon to find inspiration for your own product.
