Introduction

Are you longing for a trip to the spa with your friends, spouse or as a special treat alone? If the answer is “yes” and you don’t know where to start, don’t assume it’s going to cost a small fortune to make this dream come true. Day spas are a wonderful way to rejuvenate and get yourself back on track. However, they can also be expensive and intimidating if you don’t know where to start. It’s possible to keep your budget in check while spoiling yourself and your friends and spouse by planning a spa trip without breaking the bank.

Step 1

Call around and ask for spa prices and availability. Many spas have packages around major holidays or will offer you a discount on your birthday or if you book several days, weeks or months in advance. Ask what services the spa offers and if you can receive salon services, such as a pedicure and haircut, as well. Many times the services come as a package deal, which is less expensive, or inquire if you can create your own package for set price.

Step 2

Get a firm estimate and jump on a great deal when you find one, especially if there are a limited amount of packages available. Get your affairs in order before the day of the trip to ensure nothing gets in your way. Find a babysitter, make sure you have this time off work and that anyone else going with you can also have the entire day free for a fun spa experience.

Step 3

Plan the remainder of the day around the spa. Inquire if the spa offers a meal with the service or if you must eat off the premises. Ask your friends if they have any special requests for the day and plan to car pool or how to get to and from the spa with your friends.

Step 4

Get a good night’s sleep before you head off to the spa. The next morning dress in comfortable clothing and bring along any gear you might need for the day, such as a pair of flip flops, a swimsuit or a fancy dress outfit for an evening on the town after the spa trip.

Step 5

During your time at the spa, enjoy every minute of your day. Don’t worry about what’s going on in the outside world, such as problems or deadlines at work or if the kids are behaving at the babysitter’s or with your parents. Don’t stress if you’re at the spa and plans fall through or your package changes. If you’re not satisfied with the services or if the plan wasn’t what the salon and spa offered, don’t be afraid to ask for a discount. Also, tip your attendants or aestheticians if they’re performing the services above and beyond what you expected. Take this time to inquire if the spa offers a discount for repeat customers. You may turn this initial trip to the day spa into a monthly or yearly opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your friends, spouse or by yourself.
