Watch What You Eat and How Much Of It: If you're going to be on a long car ride, on a cruise or even just riding a carnival ride, you should try not to over eat beforehand. Motion sickness is more common if you feel unusually full and have over indulged. Heavy foods, such as pasta and spicy foods usually make motion sickness worse.

Sit in the Front Seat of The Car : If you experience motion sickness often when in vehicle, it could be because you're sitting in the back seat. A lot of people actually get sick when sitting in the back, so if you're prone to getting nausea, then sit in the front instead.

Do Not Read While in the Car, On a Plane Or On a Cruise: Reading can only worsen motion sickness in some. Reading can send conflicting messages to the your eyes, making your eyes work in over time which can confuse your central nervous system.

Get Fresh Air : One of the most obvious ways to avoid motion sickness is to get some fresh air or turn on the air conditioner in a car, if you're feeling a nauseous feeling coming on. This allows your body to feel refreshed.

Choose The Best Seat: When traveling on a plane, choose a seat that you will experience the least motion. On a plane choose, a seat over the wing as this part of the plane is the calmest. When on a cruise, choose a cabin that is on the lower level, near the center of the ship.

There are certain over the counter products available to prevent motion sickness. Some of the more known motion sickness products are: Bonine, Antivert, Dramamine. These are all very effective and work almost instantly. They are also fairly inexpensive. If you are usually prone to motion sickness, talk to your doctor about it as he or she may be able to prescribe a stronger, prescription medication to help you out.
Other Tips
Besides the tips mentioned above, there are some other fairly easy tips to avoid motion sickness. One of them is avoid sitting backwards or in the opposite direction of your travel. Another simple tip is to avoid strong food odors. You also should want to avoid any alcohol in order to prevent motion sickness. When traveling by boat, car or airplane, try to keep your eyes on a fixed point. Lastly, you will want to avoid being around other people are experiencing motion sickness as just the thought of motion sickness can in fact get you sick. Try to isolate yourself away from others who are experiencing motion sickness, to avoid thinking about it yourself.
