The study of environmental and health services entail the study of mans environment in relation to the services that promotes his health. The main aim of studying environmental and health is to appreciate what is needed to be done for man to remain healthy. It is a field that can the studied either certificate, Diploma or Degree level.
The Environment
The environment is everything that is surrounding us. These include physical features, vegetation, climatic condition and manmade features. These features affects man existence in one way or another . The physical features like mountain, river and lakes determine the weather pattern and many needs such like water which man needs in all his undertaking. Man made features like buildings; vehicle, roads and so on are also an important part of human existence. All this will affect man health in one way or another. Under the study of environmental and health services, we don’t go into detail and know for the example the geographical details for example, a given river. The study entails knowing how the environment will affect the health of man. For example when dealing with a river, we will be more concern on what diseases will the river water can cause rather the name of the river or how long it is and it geographical position. We would also want to know how we will take of the river so that it does not affect the health of the living organism around, of main concern is man. We would want to know how to reduce or stop pollution? All these aim at protecting man health. Some areas of concern in environmental and health are: Checking air quality, observing climate changes, preparing for disasters, checking the safety of food, managing dangerous material, residential planning, disposal of waste, safe water drinking, control of vector, recycling, safety and quality of consumer products.

All these three levels are meant to make man healthy. Primary health care focuses on preventive measures; Measures that prevent one from getting sick. Some of the measures include:-

Secondary health care involves treating an already sick person by taking medication o any other measure that will help him recover. Tertiary healthy care is when the disease is at an advance stage and more people are infected. Extra measures are needed to protect the population. Quarantine is one of those measures that fall under tertiary health care. The aim is prevent an epidemic.
