Although online banking is known for its convenience and efficiency, there are a lot of security fears associated with this banking service. You can do your transactions online and check your bank balances any time but there is one thing that online banking consumers need to know. There is some private and confidential information being transmitted through the process. There are some security issues and precautions that you therefore need to take into account in order to stay safe.

Protect your personal information

It is not a good idea to share your banking private information with every other company because this will expose you. When you sign up for certain services or products, always avoid giving them your personal banking details. Some of these online companies are not genuine and legitimate. Find out about the history of the company first and read their company reviews as well.

Use a secure banking website

Make sure that you are logging in your private information in a secure website, don’t trust the links that you are referred to on the internet. It is also common to receive emails that look like they are coming from your bank. Stay away from such emails; in fact delete them before you can even open them. They are used by spammers and hackers to get your personal banking details.

Is your computer properly protected?

The computer that use for your online banking must be secure and protected. Make sure you install a good anti virus software. Regularly check for security updates and make sure all your files are safe from any corruption. If your computer is not safe it can be very risky to do your online banking there

Log into your account regularly

Make sure you check your account regularly, if you see anything suspicious report it immediately to your bank. Always check your transaction and balances and compare with what you did. You want to make sure that everything is in order and that your account is safe. If possible you can print your statements just to keep a separate record of all your transactions.

Do not open email attachments from unknown senders

This is how viruses are spread, if you do not know the source or where the email is coming from simply delete the email. Make sure you do not open other browsers whilst you are doing your internet banking. Always check the website you are using first before you can continue with your banking. There are websites out there that have got similar addresses with your bank so make sure you are on the right page first.

Some passwords are easily identifiable; do not use your second name or your child’s name as a password for example. People out there will try to do everything to get to your account. you do not want to loose your hard earned money. Your password must include numerical numbers and letters. Do not share your password even with your loved ones. You must also change the password regularly.
