1. Duke University. Duke is the first thing that comes to mind when people consider Carolina universities. It is a private school located in Durham, North Carolina. There are ten graduate schools and two undergraduate schools. The school is very famous for its research projects which are among the largest and most well-funded in the nation. The campus spreads over 8,600 acres and features Gothic architecture buildings. It also has a medical center which is highly regarded by many around America. The Duke University basketball team is also one of the reasons many athletes choose to study there.
2. Clemson University. Clemson University is a public university situated in Clemson, South Carolina. It is one of the best Carolina universities founded in 1889 and features five colleges - Architecture, Arts and Humanities, Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences, Business and Behaviorial Sciences, Health, Education and Human Development and Engineering and Science. Currently, there are over 11,000 enrolled students with a student-teacher ratio of 16:1. It is well-known for its college of engineering and science.
3. Furman University. Furman University is a private school located in Greenville, South Carolina. It was founded in 1826 and is one of the oldest in the United States. It is a relatively small institution with only about 2,800 undergraduate students and over 500 graduate students but still rank among the best Carolina universities in America. The campus spans 750 acres. There are majors and courses in 42 subjects and most students who graduate from Furman proceed to attain Ph.D. degrees. There are more Ph.D. degree holders from Furman compared to hundreds of other colleges in America.
4. University of North Carolina at Chapell Hill. UNC-Chapel Hill is the second most famous and frequently referred to as one of the best Carolina universities apart from Duke. It is situated in Chapel Hill and started accepting students in 1795, making it one of the oldest schools in the United States. The school is well-known for its College of Arts and Sciences and also offers very excellent sports programs for talented athletes, particularly for basketball, lacrosse and soccer.
5. Winthrop University. Winthrop University is a liberal arts university located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It has a population of more than 6,000 students and is one of the best Carolina universities in the south area. According to many reviews, the school continues to exceed the set standards every year which is why the formerly Winthrop College was upgraded to university status. Students are honed to become leaders and useful community members aside from being highly qualified for a variety of positions in different industries.
