But don’t be disappointed when your doctor can’t give you a specific survival rate for you since he will just be basing it on the experiences of other cancer patients that used to have the same cancer as you are.
But people who are diagnosed with cancer and are not satisfied with the answers from their doctors would often go out of their way to research and know their chances of surviving this disease. If you do the same thing, be prepared for whatever you learn about the cancer that you have and its rate of survival.
What Is the Survival Rate of Cancer
For most cancer patients, the rate that is given is the five-year survival rate. This means that most patients diagnosed with cancer are still going to live five years after the prognosis was given.
The survival rates of cancer are actually based on the information from researches and studies gather from people who have had similar cases of cancer. The cancer rate survival includes the ages and health conditions of those people who are diagnosed with cancer. Your doctors should be able to give you more detailed information about the statistics of the type of cancer that you have.
Just bear in mind that the cancer rate survival are not indicative whether within that timeframe you are still under medication and treatment or if you become cancer-free after that span of time given. Others have lived longer that the survival rate given to them but some have also died before their survival rate even expired.

Survival rates may not be able to predict what will happen to you within a specific span of time but it sure can help you on how your cancer will be dealt with. Doctors and patients use these survival rates as a means to work on some treatment plans around that span of time allotted.

Don’t Lose Hope
The survival rates of cancer patients are not there to give you false hopes but to prepare you on how to deal with your disease. This will also help your doctor work out a treatment plan within that period and give you the chance to survive it.
Survival rates of cancer should not be taken as a sign to lose hope. Some cancer patients have not been able to survive even before their cancer rate survival is through because they were already feeling down. When you feel down, it affects your immune system and weakens your body’s chance to fight it.
