Introduction
Allergies and asthma seem to go hand-in-hand. It seems that almost every person you meet that has asthma has an allergy to something, whether it is to mold, grass, animals, food or cleaning products. Having an allergy and asthma can make you feel sick and land you in the hospital. Some people have a hard time when the season’s change and others have allergies so bad and almost anything can affect them and this can make the asthma act up. If you have allergy and asthma, there are some steps that you can take to help yourself feel better.
Step 1
The first thing that you should do if you suspect allergy and asthma is to make an appointment with your doctor. He might do test himself or send you to a specialist that can do test to see if you do have allergies. These are skin test that put little amounts of different allergens into your skin and depending on how bad your skin swells up will tell you what you are allergic to.
Step 2
After determining what you might be allergic to, the doctor might prescribe you some medicine to take every day. These medicines are usually to help you control both allergy and asthma and can make a big difference in how you feel on a daily basis.
Step 3
If it is suspected that you are allergic to animals, it is up to you to have them or not. Most doctors will advise you to get rid of any that you have. Many people are allergic to pet dander and even though you may clean religiously, you can still have an issue with the dander that is floating around in the air.
Step 4
If you have allergy and asthma, your doctor will also tell you to get rid of any carpet that is in your room. Carpet is a great place for dust to collect and you need to remove this problem to help you breath easier. If you have curtains up at your windows, you will also want to remove those and only use blinds. Blinds can easily be vacuumed every day if you need to. If it is your child with the allergy and asthma, you will also want to limit how many stuffed animals they have in their room. Stuffed animals are notorious for dust and can bring on an attack.
Step 5
One of the things that seems to trigger both allergy and asthma attacks are allergens that are in the air. This can be anything from perfumes and colognes to cigarette smoke. If you have either of these conditions, you should try to avoid coming in contact with them. Some cleaning supplies will also set off attacks in people.
Tips
Living with allergy and asthma can be easy if you follow the advice of others who also suffer and listen to your doctor. If you have medicine, make sure that you take it when you are suppose to. This can be one of the biggest things that help you. Avoid the things that cause you to have attacks as much as you can.
