Step 2

Now you have to keep in mind if you will have in-mounting blinds windows or outside mounting blinds. This makes a difference in the way you measure. It will also help you get the right and precise measurement. Now measure the width of the window from one trim of the window to the other. Keep in mind that your window may not be of the perfect square shape. For this measure the window from inside the trim from three places; the top, middle and bottom. This will give you a good idea of the width of your window. The measurement which you should record is the smallest out of the three measurements you have taken.

Step 3

Now let’s get to the height of the window. This should also be measured from the inside of the trim blinds windows. This also you should measure from three different places, keeping in mind that the window may not be of an exact square shape. Take the measurements from the right side, the middle, and the left side. Round up the measurements down to the nearest 1/8th. Again record the smallest of the measurements.

When you are done with the height and the width, get a good idea of how long you want you’re blind to be. Will it be of the exact length as your window, or will it be longer than your window. If it will be lower than the blinds windows, be sure to record the length you want it to be. If you opt for an inside mount you will not have the option of longer blinds. So look into different designs so that you can decide what you want.

Step 5

The last thing you should keep in mind when you are measuring your blinds windows is that you should double check all your measurements. They may seem to be perfect when you take them the first time around. However there can be a difference in the measurements you have written down. For that recheck your measurements at least three to four times.
