Review Of the Asus Laptop

Introduction

The year of 2012 is the the year of Ultra books, Ultra books are the latest and greatest in laptop innovation, as their blade thin profiles, light weight, powerful capabilities and aluminum bodies, make them the perfect traveling companions. The single most talked-about Ultra book is the Macbook Air, but you don't have to shell $1,200 for cutting edge performance, there are many other Ultra book laptops out there, and we're going to review one of them today. Asus's flagship Ultra book right now, is the Asus Zenbook UX31 Asus Laptop. This ultra thin and well built Asus laptop is designed to give the competition a real run for their money. And we're going to review it today.

Design

When it comes Asus laptops, they're generally not well designed, not so in this case. The Zenbook has a brushed aluminum chassis and a beautifully reflective  silver top, the body is made out of single carved piece of aluminum, and it looks wonderful. If not very similar to the Macbook Air. The Asus laptop weighs 3 pounds and features dimension of 13.3 x 8.9 x 0.1-0.7 inches, which it makes 0.5 thicker than the Macbook Air. The hinge is very easy to open and close, and the laptops feels like it weighs nothing. As for the keyboard, it's nearly perfect as well, it's an Island-Style Chiclet keyboard, with a black background to help distinguish the silver keys. Despite being fat, they stuck well to my fingers and were a breeze to type with. The only problem with the keyboard, and this might be a big problem depending on your typing needs, is that there is no back lighting, you won't be able to see any of the keys in the dark. And the arrow buttons are very small.

Now, for the Trackpad. It's an Elan made plastic Trackpad that actually works well, not as smoothly as a Macbook's, but the Asus laptop manages to conducts the pinch-to-zoom feature wonderfully, it doesn't jump around  the desktop, and scrolls through pages smoothly. It just tends to perform poorly when paired with either Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. The Asus Zenbook laptop has an 1080p HD screen, thanks to its resolution of 1600 x 900; which is something even a Macbook Air would envy. The only problem is that the viewing angles are rather narrow. The Asus laptop also has another feature the Macbook Air would Envy, its excellent speakers made by Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower and ASUS SonicMaster. To wrap up the design section, the Asus laptop has a single USB 3.0 port on the right, Mini VGA nad Mini HDMI ports on the same side, while the left side has a USB 2.0 port, headphone jack and microSD card slots.While the front side has 1.3 MP camera for Skype.

Features

The Asus Zenbook features a 1.7-GHz Intel Core i5-2557M processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD drive by Adata. That much horsepower can pretty much zip through any type of work, it also is capable of booting up from sleep in under two seconds, and can transfer a 5 GB file in under 50 seconds. It's graphical prowess is about average, since it uses an integrated Intel HD 300 card. Casual gamers and WOW (World of Warcraft) gamers will feel at home, but more demanding gamers will have to consider getting an Alienware laptop. The laptop features the latest WI-FI, Bluetooth 3.0, and can last for about 5 hours without charge. Not bad at all.
