Introduction
Since the advent of the iPhone and the iPad, Apple and Steve Jobs have become household names. Apple came into the market with a bang in the 1980’s when Job launched the Macintosh which was the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface rather than a command-line interface. Since then Macs have evolved into laptops which are sleek in design have excellent specifications yet they have a lower market share than the Windows operating systems. One of the back draws of Macbooks is that they can’t be used for a gaming laptop, because of its previous lack of graphic cards. These days this problem has been solved for Macintosh laptops gaming but the share still remains low in gaming devices perhaps because game publishers are hesitant to develop games for a smaller user base.
History
On January 24, 1984, Apple introduced the first Macintosh personal computer which came equipped with a 128K operating system which later became known as the Mac OS. The Macintosh is credited for making graphical user interface popular in the consumer market. The system was based somewhat on Apple’s, Lisa OS which had been the software used for their Lisa computer in 1983. Apple launched their first laptop, the iBook in 1999 and then more were lines were launched e.g. the Macbook series. However, though of superior design, Apple laptops have never been renowned for laptop gaming.
Features
One of the core reasons for Macs not being leading systems for laptops gaming is perhaps that they initially did not come equipped with graphic cards. However, nowadays all Macs are accompanied by top of the line Nvidia chipsets, which along with Intel CPUs makes them capable of top-notch gaming entertainment. The main issue that still remains is that game makers don’t make applications which are compatible with the Mac systems because of the low market share. They still cater to higher market of Windows which has a high market share because of its lower costs than those of Apple. Unless Apple comes up with an AppStore of sorts for its laptop line as well there is little hope of beating the Windows systems in the gaming arena. However, if something like the AppStore for laptops is designed then there may as well be a gaming revolution for the Mac OS.
Tips and comments
For all the Apple fans out there however, who still want laptops gaming on their Macbooks then you can get Mac versions of PC games from companies like Aspyr media, Gamehouse and Ambrosia Software. Some of the games are albeit slightly slow, but still some gaming on your laptop is none. Mac fans will have to go through some extra wait as these companies come up with versions of popular games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor but the wait is probably easier and better than scrapping your whole system specially one as pricey as the Apple Macbook for something else. Several online websites even have the Mac version of these available online for free.
